Siege Worlds, the play-to-earn shooter on Epic Games, added two loot-collecting companions on October 3, 2026. In its announcement, the developer introduced the Coffer Cub and the full-grown Coffer, "chest-hound" pets that run out, pick up dropped weapons and gear, and carry them back so players don't have to stop fighting.
Historical news event: 2026-10-03. Retrospective report prepared November 2026.
The pets tackle a familiar problem in the game. A player's bag holds 28 slots and every weapon takes one. Deep into a raid, the floor fills with gear there's no room for and no time to sort. "The coffer pets exist for exactly that moment," the developer wrote.
How the Coffer Pets work
Once placed, a coffer watches the ground around its owner. When a weapon or piece of equipment lands within 30 metres, it runs over, swallows the item and trots back. At launch it then rested 15 seconds before looking for the next one. The player doesn't have to click anything.
The two versions differ in capacity and in what happens when they're full, according to the announcement:
- Coffer Cub: holds 12 items, then stops fetching until the player banks it.
- Coffer: holds 48 items, and in the home world runs to the bank and deposits the whole load itself. Inside a match, with no bank nearby, it holds the 48 until the player returns home.
The pets go for guns, melee weapons, armour, capes, rings and amulets, the items that fill a bag one slot at a time. They leave stackable items such as ammo, runes, ore, seeds and bank notes on the floor, along with anything the player dropped on purpose and other players' pets. They also sit out the game's Extraction mode, which has its own loot rules.
Fairness rules carry over too. A coffer never fetches a pile its owner couldn't pick up, so another player's drop stays theirs until it becomes public, and party loot sharing works as normal. A pet that's still holding items can't be picked up until it's banked, which the developer said stops anyone using it as a free way to carry 48 extra items.

Designed by a player
The developer credits the pets to a player known as M1ll3nn1um. The coffers "started as an idea from M1ll3nn1um, who then modelled and rigged both hounds," the announcement said, describing both pets as his work "from first sketch to final animation." Around its base, a coffer behaves like a dog: it trots when the player walks, runs when they sprint, and sniffs about or lies down when left alone.
Fan-made content becoming a store item is still unusual in live games, and it's a small example of a community shaping what gets built.
The pets went on sale in the Siege Worlds store the same day, payable by card or USDT stablecoin. The Coffer Cub is the standard version and the full-grown Coffer a limited run. The developer said bought pets are tradeable in-game items but can't be sold or traded for 45 days after purchase.
Part of a run of quality-of-life updates
Coffer Pets arrived during a busy stretch for the game. A week earlier, Update 6.0.2 let golem pets carry up to 200 ores, covering the stackable materials the coffers ignore. A week later, Update 6.0.4 added a new tutorial, the character Skylie and welcome rewards.
Feedback came quickly. In its October 18 Bellower raid boss announcement, the developer said players found the cub filled too fast and both pets rested too long. It doubled the Coffer Cub's capacity to 24 items, cut rest times to 7 seconds for the cub and 5 seconds for the Coffer, and changed the full-grown Coffer so that when full it vanishes, sends its load straight to the vault and returns empty two minutes later.
Games need more than token incentives
Siege Worlds mixes first-person shooting against large monster hordes with fantasy and science-fiction settings, collectible gear and crypto rewards. Players earn Divi and the game's SIEGE token through play, and the game features the world and lore of Starblind. The developer has also proposed a simpler play-and-earn model built around two token types.
The team's stated goal has always been the battles themselves. "We aimed to craft a game that transforms players into cinematic heroes; envisioning a battle experience against massive hordes, like the epic scenes found in Lord of the Rings," co-founder Geoff McCabe said on the game's website, as archived in April 2026.
That's why a feature like Coffer Pets matters. Its purpose makes sense without explaining any token: the dog carries the loot so players can keep shooting. Lasting interest in Web3 games tends to come from everyday improvements and memorable companions as much as from rewards. The franchise also reaches beyond the game itself, including the interactive comic Siege Worlds Zero.
