A welcoming Royal Family<\/h3>\r\n

It was actually a chance encounter between Yanislav Malahov, CEO of \u00e6ternity<\/a>, and Prince Alois of Liechtenstein at a conference that attracted \u00e6ternity to launch in this fairytale-like land. Back in 2016, the Prince expressed the principality\u2019s receptivity to cryptocurrencies and encouragement for blockchain endeavors and things spiraled from there. The royal family has repeatedly and publicly expressed its support for blockchain and crypto, with Prince Alois stating that cryptocurrencies are \u2018something to look into more into the future.\u2019 The Prince also told CNBC:<\/p>\r\n

\u2018Blockchain will change a lot of things. It could even make our state more efficient the way it is administered.\u2019 If you still don\u2019t believe how supportive the royal family are, look no further than the hundreds of people that flock to monthly blockchain meetups hosted in Liechtenstein\u2019s capital, Vaduz.<\/p>\r\n

Financial Inclusivity<\/h3>\r\n

Family-run financial institution Bank Frick<\/a> made headlines earlier this year when it became the first financial institution in Liechtenstein to offer cryptocurrency trading and storage facilities. In November, Bank Frick then went on to sponsor a blockchain<\/span> research and certificate program at the Liechtenstein University<\/a>, giving back to the community and further integrating blockchain into the heart of Liechtenstein. While in Switzerland, traditional financial institutions have restricted access to bank accounts for blockchain startups, the fact that banks in Liechtenstein are encouraging cryptocurrency trading and investing is yet another reason that this tiny country has been christened a blockchain hub. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Location, Location, location!<\/h3>\r\n

Nestled between Switzerland and Austria, Liechtenstein is extremely accessible. Talent is easily pooled from its surrounding neighbours with Germany, Italy and France all just a short drive away. As well as this, Liechtenstein \u2019s proximity to Switzerland\u2019s blockchain-hub Zug also provides for a great collaborative environment, and the two jurisdictions frequently support each other on blockchain-related issues. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n

The 6th smallest country in the world<\/h3>\r\n

With a population of just 38,100<\/a>, Liechtenstein is the sixth smallest country in the world.\u00a0 Its small size is actually a major advantage, as it allows the government to quickly and easily pass legislation that will benefit the indigenous blockchain industry.<\/p>\r\n

Low Crime Rate<\/h3>\r\n

Liechtenstein boasts one of the world\u2019s lowest crime rates. In fact, the last murder in the country was in 1997. Today, its prison is very empty and if any citizen has a sentence longer than two years, they are transferred to Austria. The low crime rate and safe environment are hugely attractive to businesses seeking to establish operations in the region.<\/p>\r\n

Low Tax Rates<\/h3>\r\n

Not subjected to obstacles of bureaucracy, Liechtenstein\u2019s famously low tax rates have made it a popular destination for financial services in the past and, without a doubt, for blockchain projects today. Cutting costs wherever possible is a huge factor in enticing new businesses to launch and the low tax rates in Liechtenstein are no exception.<\/p>\r\n

Member of the European Economic Area, but not the European Union.<\/p>\r\n

Liechtenstein appears to have an ideal situation by existing as a member of the European Economic Area but not being a member of the European Union.<\/p>\r\n

The key relevance of this factor lies in the areas of financial services, blockchain and cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\r\n

House of Blockchain<\/h3>\r\n

The House of Blockchain<\/a>\u00a0was established by \u00e6ternity and N\u00e4gele Rechtsanw\u00e4lte Attorneys at Law LLC, in Vaduz, in 2018. The House of Blockchain\u2019s overall aim is to create a centre for collaboration in the community with a focus on providing a co-working space for blockchain projects to develop. Liechtenstein\u2019s Prime Minister, Adrian Hasler, spoke highly of the small country\u2019s successful blockchain ecosystem at the well-attended opening event.
